About Me
Originally from Glasgow, now based in Halifax, West Yorkshire. I'm a qualified teacher, AQA Approved Examiner, and someone who genuinely gets a buzz from helping students do well.
I grew up in Glasgow and always knew I wanted to teach. After qualifying, I spent years teaching geography in schools and I loved every bit of it. Watching students go from "I don't get it" to "oh wait, that actually makes sense" never gets old. That's why I started Learn With Lorna. I wanted to keep doing what I love but with the flexibility to give each student the time and attention they actually need.
I'm not the kind of tutor who just works through a textbook. I bring real-world experience into my lessons, from fieldwork in woodlands to conservation projects. Geography isn't just about learning facts for an exam, it's about understanding the world around you. Maths is the same. Once you see how it connects to real life, it clicks.
As an AQA Approved Examiner, I know exactly what the examiners are looking for. I've marked the papers. I know where students pick up marks and where they lose them. That insider knowledge makes a real difference when it comes to exam prep.
I'm also SEND inclusive. Every student learns differently and I adapt my approach to suit how your child works best. Whether they need things broken down a bit more, a different pace, or just someone who's patient and gets it, I'm here for that.
The Person Behind the Lessons
I grew up in Glasgow before making the move down to Yorkshire, and I've called Halifax home for a while now. When I'm not helping students with their exams, you'll probably find me out exploring somewhere. Hiking through autumn leaves, visiting farms, or just having a cup of tea in a cosy cafe. I'm a proper outdoors person, which is probably why I ended up loving geography so much.
I think it matters that your child's tutor is a real person, not just a name on a screen. I bring my personality into every lesson because learning works best when it doesn't feel like a chore. My students often tell me my lessons are the ones they actually look forward to, and honestly that means everything to me.
Based in West Yorkshire
I'm based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and I've made it my home. A lot of my students are local, from Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and the surrounding towns. But because all my lessons are online, I work with families from right across Yorkshire and beyond.
Whether you're in Sowerby Bridge, Elland, Brighouse, or further afield in Leeds, Wakefield, or Sheffield, your child gets the same quality one-to-one tuition from the comfort of home. No travel, no rushing around after school. Just log on and we get stuck in.
I've taught students from all over Calderdale and West Yorkshire over the years, and I love that online tutoring means distance is never an issue. If you're looking for a geography or maths tutor in Yorkshire, I'd love to hear from you.
All lessons are online, so wherever you are, we can make it work.
